"SUMU Sight" is a segmented incense burner resembling a Boshan Lu, created through 3D printing. The structure comprises three parts: the Seven Treasure Mountains, the Four Heavenly Kings, and the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven, each built from 3D printed components that can be assembled by stacking. Incense can be placed at the central part, "The Seven Mountains," with the "Four Heavenly Kings" peaks interspersed above, allowing for the natural flow of smoke. In terms of AR narrative content, based on the basic narratives of Asuras and deities in the murals, we extracted three significant elements from Mount Meru to form the three components of the incense burner, realizing a presentation of tangible narrative content. Additionally, utilizing AR technology, "SUMU Sight" enhances the narrative beyond the physical incense burner, with virtual images surrounding the burner.

This work was completed during my graduate investigation. We visited the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, where there is a wealth of interesting stories and mural content involving Buddhist transformation tableaux. I aimed to alter the two-dimensional representation of religious stories by using tangible narration. I focused on redesigning the themes of Mount Meru and the Trāyastriṃśa heaven from Buddhist texts.
